Course description
Traditional joints: half-lap and mortise and tenon
Wood joinery techniques are ancient.
Over the years, they have continually evolved to adapt to new materials and improve productivity.
To discover solid wood and the pleasure of hand woodworking, we offer a hands-on workshop to create various traditional joints.
During these three hours, you will experience the time required to make a traditional joint.
Content and objectives:
During this 3-hour workshop, you will first learn how to mark out and then create two types of traditional joints: a half-lap joint, followed by a shouldered mortise and tenon joint.
The small number of participants allows our cabinetmaker to adapt to each person’s pace.
During this course, you will use the following marking and cutting tools:
- a ruler,
- a square,
- a marking gauge,
- a marking awl,
- a mallet,
- chisels,
- a mortise chisel,
- a Japanese saw.
Please note:
There are no prerequisites to take part in this workshop. Modern joints using lamellos and dowels are practiced in the “Modern Joints” workshops.
Wearing closed-toe shoes is recommended.
