Could you introduce yourself in a few words?
I’m curious and hands-on. I love learning and discovering new techniques, ideas and materials, but I hate doing the same thing twice.
How did the idea for L’Établisienne come about?
In 2009, to complement my initial training as a designer, I wanted to learn woodwork. I then realised there was no place in Paris to pool tools, space and know-how…
Could you tell us a bit more about the story of the place?
By chance, through property listings, I discovered 88 Boulevard de Picpus, a plumber-roofer’s workshop still in operation. The owner was retiring but leaving with regret; his grandfather had founded the business and built the premises in the early 20th century.
Your favourite material?
Paper.
Your favourite tool?
A scalpel.
Your favourite gesture?
“Patauger”.
How did the name “L’Établisienne” come about?
Like many entrepreneurs, I spent time looking for a name when it was still just a project. At that time, I was making a daily collage with the free newspapers handed out on the metro.
The project became clearer, the company was formed, but I still had no name!
I then set about making larger collages, including one on wood, and by juxtaposing images and words the name “L’Établisienne” was born. If you’d like to see that collage, it’s at L’Établisienne.
I post my other collages on my personal Instagram account:
What are you working on at the moment?
Creating a Paris event dedicated to collage, with an exhibition, workshops, talks and a paper fair.
A retrospective of the 2nd edition is online, and if this event interests you, you can follow our news on the dedicated site: Collage Festival Paris – Expos, Ateliers, Conférence (collage-festival.paris)
