Course description

Would you like to learn how to weld but don’t know where to start?

The three most common welding processes are SMAW (stick welding), MAG (semi-automatic), and TIG. Each has its advantages, disadvantages, and specific use cases.

The right question to ask yourself before signing up for a welding introduction is therefore: “What kind of metal project do I want to make?”

Understanding the differences between welding processes and what makes a good weld.

All the theoretical and practical basics of welding.

Choosing your equipment: welding machine, electrodes, PPE, etc.

Recommended to get started, for complete beginners.

Characteristics:

  • Intermediate difficulty.
  • Occasional use.
  • Inexpensive equipment and consumables.
  • Steel, stainless steel, cast iron.
  • Welding thicknesses of 2 mm and above.
  • Rather slow execution.
  • Little preparation of parts.
  • Quite a bit of post-weld cleaning.
  • Strength is more important than appearance.
  • Indoor and outdoor work.

Recommended for occasional to regular welders.

Characteristics:

  • Easy to learn and progress.
  • Occasional to frequent use.
  • Relatively expensive equipment and consumables.
  • Steel (stainless steel, aluminum under certain conditions).
  • Handles all welding thicknesses.
  • Fast execution.
  • Moderate preparation of parts.
  • Little post-weld cleaning.
  • Good appearance and good strength.
  • Indoor work.

Recommended for demanding welders who want to weld all metals with full control.
No compromise between appearance and strength.

Characteristics:

  • Difficult and slow to master.
  • Occasional to frequent use.
  • Expensive equipment and consumables.
  • All metals (with a single gas).
  • Handles all welding thicknesses.
  • Slow execution.
  • Advanced preparation of parts.
  • Little or no post-weld cleaning.
  • Excellent appearance and very high strength.
  • Indoor work.
